dvd format on wii ???

my bro is asking me to find out how he can play movies on the wii hes downloaded from the internet.

i told him to try copying the file to the sd card but it didnt work, so what format does the movie have to be converted to, to play on the sd card in the wii ??

for now ive got him sorted just converting movie files to dvd etc etc, but hes wanting to know if its possible to get the movies onto the wii card ?

The Wii must have DVDx installed and movieplayer in order to play DVD at present.

Both of these are run through the HomeBrew Channel.
