Format Wii incase shizzle goes dizzle

Hello peeples, had loads of good reading on this fourm on various threads but what i wanna know is... is there a way i can get back to square 1 ever if i mess stuff up or my softmod becomes outdated ? or plain need to send it back to ninpretendo... this is the last obstacle in the way of me going down th softmod route.

the advice i have read on this problem is this, that if you update to 4.2 firmware if needed it pretty much gets rid of most of the sofmod installed files, after doing this format the wii system memory as well.
