Wii softmod - howto for right idiots like me

If any of you are confused about how to get your wii to load backups from a hard drive read this as I had a nightmare with loads of problems, spent hours reading guides for dummies etc etc and so many different ways of doing it, which one to choose and wii not doing as described, even thought i had bricked my wii at one point.

update to 4.2 firmware first - those with an earlier firmware and cant connect via wifi or those running homebrew on a lower firmware can update to 4.2 with this http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-updater-1037/

Then install homebrew channel - bannerbomb

then follow this step by step and it worked perfectly

HOWTO: Setup a System Menu 4.2 Wii for playing backups of commercial games with uLoader Ade's Softmodding Wii blog

I hope this helps those of you who are totally confused

    Regards

if you wanted to be on 4.2 you could of updated by wi-fi via nintendo before you started to softmod once you had done that, you then could follow the tut you posted, without the problems,or if you was 3.4 for arguments sake you could of followed a tut for 3.4 then when you were finished then use 4.2 safe updater

Ah i see, i thought i needed to use the safe updater to upgrade to 4.2 but you say i didnt need to and can just use nintendo's 4.2 update and the safe update is only really for those who have already patched their lower firmware

I suppose for those who havnt got their wii wifi then they could use the safe update like i did?
