SOFTMODDED BUT CANT LOAD GAMES FROM A HDD

HI, I HAVE INSTALLED THE SOFTMOD INC THE HBC ON MY WII 4.2E AND CAN PLAY DOWNLOADED GAMES VIA USB NO PROBLEMS THERE, I WANT TO PUT THE GAMES ON A HDD BECAUSE I ONLY HAVE AN 8GB USB STICK AND A HDD WILL HOLD A LOT MORE, THE PROBLEM IS WHEN I SELECT LOAD FROM USB IN NEO GAMMA 7 WITH THE HDD CONNECTED I GET ANOTHER PAGE SHOWIN 29 ATTEMPTS TO LOAD FROM USB, WHEN IT GETS TO ZERO I AM TAKEN BACK TO THE PREVIOUSE PAGE AND NO GAMES ARE SHOWING SO IT MUSNT BE READING THE HDD, IS THERE ANYTHING I NEED TO DO TO GET THIS TO WORK OR IS IT NOT POSSIBLE, THANKS IN ADVANCE.

There could be several reason for it not to work:

      1. The drive might not be compatible.
      ANSWER: Try another drive

      2. Maybe it's not properly formatted.
ANSWER: If you formatted it with your computer before try it with the wii itself and see.

      3. Sometimes the wii has trouble recognising the drive from the USB port.
ANSWER: Try swapping the cable to the second USB port.

hi, i used wii back up manager v 0.3.4 same as i do for the usb stick(which works fine) however, i just checked the link you posted and can see that my maxtor 5000dv is not listed there as being compatable so that could be the answer, thanks, i will try another drive.

I struggled with my Maxtor HDD for almost a week and then just went and bought a Western Digital.
          Problems solved.
I use WBFS manager to format the hard drive into two partitions. 10GB Fat 32 partition and the rest WBFS.
          Works 100%

you can have full wbfs or with a fat partition a fat partition will give you the advantage of running wii programs from it and storing the covers and labels for wiiflow also you can store movies and music on it for playing on the wii

OK so I used to play games strictly with Neogamma and burned games because I previously thought I couldn't do USB loading. BUT I figured it out! So what I used was:

Wii Backup Manager (to load the ISO files into and turn into a WBFS file)

                Configurable USB Loader

and then this is a VERY useful link to get started
