My softmodde black 4.2e wants to update

Full softmod as per the sticky with priiloader installed and update hacks enabled.

I've connected my Wii to my wifi network this morning. Connectivity is fine, I've checked the weather channel, downloaded some covers and used the homebrew browser.

    A couple of things though;

1/ When I put the Wii in standby, the power light glows orange now instead of the previous red colour. This is due to the Wii settings in WiiConnect24 mode, it's a sort of 'half' standby mode that lets the Wii continue to download weather and news updates. It consumes more energy though.

    To turn this setting off:

    1. open the Wii Options menu
    2. choose Wii Settings
    3. on page two select the WiiConnect24 button
    4. choose Standby Connection
    5. click on Off and hit Confirm

2/ When I tested my internet connection, my Wii said:

The connection test was successful. There is an update available.

Perform a Wii system update now?
    Wii Support Code: 61212
From my reading, this support code possibly means there is an issue with the connectivity on Nintendo's server.

But then.... when I tried to use the shopping channel, the Wii says a new version of the channel is available and I need to update to it first. It then autoroutes me to the Wii Update menu in settings and I have to manually cancel it.

My question is: Do I let the Wii update or am I risking the integrity of my softmodded system?

    Cheers

Cheers ck-ok. I'll do that now.
Does that mean an update would have definitely caused a problem or is this a case of playing safe?

I've just done that and the installer advised that I didn't need to install the IOS if I'm on 4.0 or higher. I decided not to proceed with the install because I couldn't be sure which version of the shopping channel it was going to install.

Since I'm on 4.2E is this really necessary? I'm still a bit green but like to understand what it is I'm doing and why I'm doing it. What's the reason for using this pack over letting the Wii update itself?

TVM ck-ok. I think the right thing to do then is skip the update of the IOS and install only the shopping channel. I have a nand backup too should things go belly up.

Yep; Bootmii installed as IOS and I've checked that I can get into the Priiloader menu system when booting up the Wii. Would you recommend I install the IOS with the updated shopping channel too?

Worked like a charm mate. My missus is pretty impressed with the Wii iplayer channel as well.
