Modded Wii online query

Hello guys.

Can anybody help on this i have a modded wii and am trying to go online with it. i have been advised to turn off wii connect so it wont install any official nintendo updates to my wii but the problem is if i turn off wii connect becuase im using a router im not able to connect online is there any way round this or am i doing something wrong.

turning off wii connect24 should not stop you from getting online with a router,turning off wii connect24 also reduces the amount of electricity by 2/3 in stand by mode.
