Can I re-softmod?

Hi,
got a Wii for the kids at xmas 2 years ago and did the twilight hack to softmod.Been working fine until today and now no backups will work.Had a look at the menu and system is on 4.2E.
No idea how this has happened assuming one of the kids has selected something they shouldnt have.
Homebrew channel is still there so is it safe to simply run the files from the 4.2E tutorial to get everything working again?

if the homebrew channel is still functional then yes run 4.2 tut.
