    Chip + softmod

I fit a chip to my wii a year or so ago. Its the type that fits in a holder so that you can remove it to reprogramme (if you've got the gear) or renew. Well it seems that its time for this as I'm getting a black screen when loading a new game and my questions are:
    1. Can you still get hold of these chips or does anyone know someone that reprogrammes them? Cannot remember the chip type but I think it had 6 or 8 legs and the holder soldered to the motherboard via 3 wires. The wii is one of the older ones.
    2. If not I tkinking of soft modding the wii and if I do I need to open the wii up to remove the chip or can I leave it in.
    Thanks

you can leave it in it will prob make it a bit easier to softmod but as for updates on the chip you need to know what is in it as some are updateable via dvd
