hi im new here i bought a wii at weekend and it has a hologram sticker on side saying wiikey the firmware says 4.2e its been playing discs okay but just tried 101 in 1 but is saying needs update' is there anything i can do as the guy said if i was to update i would ruin the wii any help in this matter would be gratefully received

does it have the homebrew channel?

What firmware is the wiikey running ?
Is it a wiikey or a wiikey 2 ?

sorry cannot tell you if it is wiikey or wiikey 2 all i know is it says ver 4.2e in wii menu

if the game your talking about is 100 in 1 party megamix it only carries 3.4 update so you should be ok to update.

im just worried as i dont want to end up with it not working just with the guy saying keep away from updates due to the key
can just ask i have been reading about the homebrew channel would i be able to put it on this wii or would that ruin it
(yes it is 100 in 1 party (not original) but as i mentioned all the other discs not originals played ok but this 1 was asking for update)

no the homebrew channel is fine to install on your wii,and would make it easier to keep it up to date or if your burning your own backups you can use this Digital Kaos - Downloads - Wii Brick Blocker Tool to block updates.
