    USB Reader on Wii

I've just successfully modded my black 4.3e Wii and have played games from my 8gb USB stick, using USB Loader.

I'm about to buy a hard drive so that I can partition it to back up my music collection and also play games on the Wii.

Will this version of the Wii be compatible with a 1TB hard drive? I only ask because I hadn't originally realised that, for some strange reason, the black and red Wii's apparently do not recognise DVD backups and just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else "odd" about them!

    Thanks in advance!

you cant play dvd backups on these wii because ninty put a drive in them that cannot play dvd's to stop piracy.
you can use any size hd u like, i have a tb h/d on mine.

i have seen it recommended to use h/d's with external power source.....

i've done a few now and have always used either 500gig or 1tb drives with external power supply.
i just buy which ever drives are going cheap...

every drive i've tried has worked.....

i.ve had one drive fail which was an old 500g 3.5" ide seagate drive in an enclosure..

only myself to blame for that one

      Hard drive for Wii

      Thanks Andrew, much appreciated

Interesting point about using an external power source as I was going to specifically get a USB powered one just for one extra wire to de-tangle. Do you think I should stick to one with an AC adaptor then? Because I know I can get a 2TB with power adaptor for the same price as the USB-powered one I was looking at with just 1TB... (can't believe I said "just 1TB"!!! Like it was just a tiny bit of storage..)

      Thanks again

        its up to you m8,
if heard people say the wii can struggle to power the bigger drives.....
i have no idea wether its true or not, but the most power youill get from a usb port is 500 mA.
so whats the power specs of the drive you asre lookin at?
does it have the double usb cable?

i have seen some external usb h/d come with a double usb connection to take power from both ports.

also if you are using mics, you need a free port, it is recommended to use a powered usb hub to connect multible mics.
