USB GX loader help needed for a dimwit

Hi guys,
sorry to bother you again and apologies in advance for what will sound like a question from an ameoba.
I managed to softmod my v4.3 by following your brilliant tuts on here, believe me they must be good if i did it haha. My main wii menu shows usb gx channel amongst others. I now have my 7yr old wanting to back up his games and he doesn't appreciate the blank looks i am giving him. I only have a 2gb flash pen at minute and is it right that you 1st format it to FAT32 put it in usb of wii stick wii game in and select usb gx. The program will enable you to copy game to the flash pen. In the words of alexander the meerkat Simples! Untiil i read some info on here that is. Now i'm a taj confused and need your help.

if i was you i would format it to http wbfs ://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/wbfs-manager-3-1085/ its even easier than fat32, format it then put it into the wii then push the + button on the gx main screen

I think ck has overlooked the fact the flash drive is only 2gb even after the games have been scrubbed to wbfs most of them are still over 2gb so if you can't copy over the game that is the reason why. See if you can get hold of a cheap external hard drive curry's and the like do a range of drives around the 500gb to 1tb for anything between ?40 to ?70 that will hold more than enough games on the other hand grab a cheap flash pen that's a little bigger and just put on a couple of games to try it out.

Hi just to let you know that everything worked a treat, apart from me trying to copy a 4gb game onto a 2gb flash pen that is DOH! So its off to buy a proper external drive tomorrow and now I know what to do them games will be backed up - hopefully that is. Thanks again

Not that big a mistake it may have worked as games are not really 4gb once added to hard drive some games like haunted house are less than 0.5gb once converted to wbfs and all the extra zero's have been scrubbed. If you have any problems setting up the hdd just shout up and someone will help but remember 2.5" hdd that are usb powered do not work very well if at all. Make sure to get either 3.5 or 2.5 with it's own power source. Here is a list of all known working HDD USB Devices Compatibility List - WikiTemp

back again, I've bought a 1tb hard drive its WD Elements with an external power supply its not portable though. Is this the correct way to go - format the hdd to FAT32 using WBFS on my PC. Then for copying the wii game, plug hdd in and load GX, put disc in drive and press the +.? I tried looking for the answer on the forums but got even more confused than normal with all that talk of partitioning and that. Would I have to do all that if I wanted to put games held on my PC onto the hdd or would wbfs do that? Also once the hdd is plugged into the wii does it have to stay plugged in there for ever or could I remove it for transferring games from the PC to the wii?

you have a couple of options
format the whole drive to wbfs this can be done with Digital Kaos - Downloads - wbfs manager 3 this is the easier way you can also use this to transfer games from pc to hdd.

format half to fat32 and half to wbfs then you can use half for the wii and half for the pc use this to partition it Digital Kaos - Downloads - easeus partition magic


you can use the whole drive on fat32 and use this to format it Digital Kaos - Downloads - easeus partition magic and this to transfer the games Digital Kaos - Downloads - wii backupmanager 0.3.beta1 the best size for fat32 is 500gig but you can go upto 1tb.

you can transfer the hdd from wii to pc no problems and yes the + button to load games from disc to the hdd on gx

I think I'll stick with the WBFS Ih've got that on my PC and I only bought the hdd for the wii, already got one on PC, plus as you've already said it's the easy option and I'm all for the easy option. haha

If you struggle to format it to wbfs with wbfs manager as I have done with bigger drives use the backup manager from ck's post to format the drive then put games on with wbfs manager and remember the wii will not recognise the drive until there is a game on it so you must load a backup from the pc before you can backup a disk from the wii or you will be told there is no usb device plugged in.

I have been strugling with getting the usb loader to work myself and I think this may be my problem..

on mine, when I load the usb loader I click on the + button it asks if I want to install a game, I click yes and it just goes back to the usb loader screen

I really just softmodded my wii so I could load my games on the hd, but if I have to dl one to get it to recognize my hd, would you be willing to point me in the right direction?

so I downloaded a game and put it on my hd and the wii see my hd, that game plays, but I still cant load the games I own onto the hd (this is important because my son always scratches the disks up)

what system menu?
what format is the hdd?
are you using gx also?
are you backing up originals?
is it a new wii?
