Wii with broken drive can it be softmodded

My mate has a Wii with a knackered drive coming up with errors when he plays games by disk.

Am i right in thinking i can softmod the Will as long as its not on 4.3 software?

Was thinking of adding an external hard drive and usb loader gx if i can mod it.

If the Wii is on lower software can i mod it first then upgrade the software if necessary to play the latest games?

Will know tomorrow when i get the Wii off him what software is on it.

just soft mod it then use a hdd for the games

yes can do it with wii and if its a 4.3 you can as well best one to chat to is

Yes you can definitely do it Andy. Not sure bout 4.3, thought you needed to play a game to get the game save ?.

Thought as much Red,im hoping its been offline or not taken any updates so i can do the mod pre 4.3.

Pretty sure the drive is completly knackered so the Indy Lego is out the window even though ive access to the game.

Im sure Ck will offer his vast experience when he's sees the thread,any advice appreciated.

hi andy if the wii isn't on 4.3 then you don't need a drive you can use bannerbomb to launch the hackmii installer.
but if its on 4.3 then your gonna be a bit stuck, perhaps you could swap the drive with your other drive just to do the hack,or try giving the drive a good clean and run a lens cleaning cd through it might just work long enough to get the indy exploit to work.

Cheers for the feedback was meant to get it today but i missed him.
Will have to wait another week now till i see him next.
