Connecting External Hard Drive to PS3

I have partioned my drive into 2 sections. The 1st partition is in EXT3 Format ans is used to record on my satellite reciever. The 2nd partition is in FAT32 and has all my media stored on it. It used to be NTFS but i changed it as i read that the PS3 doesnt read NTFS, only FAT32. When I connect my external to the PS3 via usb, nothing happens. There is no message on the ps3 and the hard drive LED isnt on. I can hear the drive spinning though. How can i make my drive work with the PS3? Thanks

Ps: This is the my external [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004445JIQ/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&s=computers&psc=1]WD My Passport Essential 500 GB Arctic White Portable Hard Drive (USB 3.0/2.0): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories[/ame]

Create a PS3 folder on your hard and put your stuff in it
don't forget fat32 don't take file bigger than 4 gig

As Desjets has mentioned folders need sorting first.

      This will help:

is teh HDD laid out as :\PS3->VIDEO->then put your videos there.

are you then scrolling accross to video on the ps3 interface and down to the HDD and pressing triangle to display all?

have you tired in both ps3 usb slots?

In my situation my hdd is powered by the mains as opposed to the ps3, does the ps3 have enough power to supply it to the hdd via usb?

check your partitioning, make sure the fat32 is set as a logical drive, if its not then the ps3 will be scanning and finding the ext3 partition and going WTF do i do with this? before spitting the dummy and deciding to ignore everything else.

But i also need the EXT3 Partition to be set as the logical drive for my Dreambox. :S Is ther any way around this or would i just need to alternate between the two partitions every time i connect it to ps3?

I use my 1tb for both my PS3 and Dm800. I just formatted the whole drive fat32. The when I want to use my ps3 i just switch it over.

No need to partition it. I dont think anyway.

But then you cant do recordings above 4gb can you? 2 Hour HD recording takes up like 14GB

the dm800 splits them up as you go mate. so no problems there.

Ok, so i've deleted the partition and formatted the whole drive to FAT32 and the drive still doesnt work :S No sign it being recognised by the Playstation and the light on the HDD doesnt come one, yet i can hear it spinning :
