    Another N00b Question on Jailbreaking

    Hi All,

    Apologies for annoying anyone, but a couple questions from some people if possible

    I've recently purchased a 120GB Slim PS3 and am looking to JailBreak it.

    I essentially want to JB it, but not sure what version of firmware to use. It currently has official 3.30 on it. I've heard some people say that it's better to have 3.41 on there for backing up PS3 games to HD to play them as you can't do it on the 3.55 versions.

    If it was best to do 3.41, can someone point me in the direction on where to get the official 3.41 ROM and patches for it? Also the same with the 3.55 ones?

    My other main thing for the PS3 was about upgrading the HD. Will it invalidate the warantee and is any special mods needed on the HD to allow it to work on the PS3?

      The best one is 3.55 as this will allow you to break the console rather than requiring a dongle.

              3.55 can play games from a HD fine.

              You don't need to mod the console to upgrade the HDD. Sony designed the PS3 to allow easy HDD upgrade. You simply take the old one out and put a new one it, but there are a few things you need to be aware of:

              The HDD needs to be 9.5mm high! Most 1tb HDD's are 12.5mm high and will not fit in the PS3! You can get 750gb HDDs that will fit.

              Be wary of HDDs with 'advanced formatting' as there have been reports that the PS3 doesn't handle them well, and freezes and glitches when playing games from it. WD harddrives in particular use this technology.

              I have a Samsung Spinpoint 640gb and it works perfectly.

                  Thanks guys, going to try the jb tonight and see what goes with the normal HD and then decide about the ?48 upgrade in HD

                  Already got a media centre (popcorn hour), an xbox 360, a Wii and my PC to play games, so might be tempted to sell the PS3 if I don't think i'll use it much!

                      3.55 cfw is the best try and get the kmeaw version
                      only problem at the minute with cfw on ps3 is new games come out and cant be play they need firmware version 3.60 or higher, this resluting in people with 3.55 cfw having to wait for a patch/ fix to allow us to play on 3.55
                      ive been waiting ages for a fix for dirt3 and there is still no sign of one yet
                      p.s dont update your 3.55 cfw console to a higher firmware version otherwise to wont be able to play backups from hard drive
