Hi, I have searched for a solution but no joy. I have a PS3 that has "The data is corrupted. (8002F225)" error caused by upgrading the hard drive when rev 3.56v1 was in the console. I don't have the original drive, all I have is a PS3 drive and a PS3 "brick". Is there any solution to this problem OTHER then sending it in and paying $$$ to get it unbricked? I have not been able to find an answer, that is why I am here. I just want to know if anyone knows if this can be fixed or if anyone has done it WITHOUT the original drive. Thanks
A bricked PS3

hdd's arent specific to a ps3 console, any 2.5 sata hdd upto (i think) 740gb or sumet like that, you wont fit a 1tb inside
but stick in your new hdd,
put the UPDATE.PUP file onto a usb memory stick/ flash drive
the update must be like this on your stick PS3>UPDATE>UPDATE.PUP
hold power button until it beeps and goes off
hold power button again you should hear one beep, then two quick beeps, let button go after second set of beeps
you should now have a menu with about 6 options in front of you
plug in your controller and select system update
plug in flash drive
follow onscreen instruction, sumet like press start and select togetherComment

Hi, Thanks for your help but I can't update the system. That is the problem, when I go through all the steps with any version of an update I get "The data is corrupted message". So I guess the answer to my question is: No solution at this time other then sending it in to have them fix something they broke. Thanks againComment

Thanks for the idea, I had a new (still in sealed antistatic bag) WD 250 Gb drive. I put it in and did the upgrade process. No luck, the same thing happens. The problem is the rev 3.56v1 that was in the PS3 when the upgrade was attempted the first time. If I had that original drive I could fix this problem. Without that drive the only thing I know to fix it is sending it to $ony to have the system reflashed and that costs $100. I was hoping someone know of a solution. But I don't think the problem has effected enought system to get much attention. I think the only way to get around the corrupt data error is to have a special SW load to upgrade from. And that may not even do it, there may not be any way to fix this problem other then a factory reload of the OS. ThanksComment
