advice on ps3 for christmas

hello,was going to buy a 320gb ps3 for my son.
the man in my local back street store said he could chip it for me but would take a week,so i can download games and play them.
my mate told me dont get it chipped as it wont play all the games,but get the firmware put back to 3.55 and he would softmod it for me.also get the 160gb version and a 1tb external hard drive.
what i dont understand is if 1 get the 320gb version wouldnt there be enough space on here to download games.

thing is, youll always need the latest firmware to go online, and the curent is 3.73, and they havent hacked 3.73 to go online, also means that new releases require latest firmware and if it hasnt been hacked then you cant run it until they do, and any firmware you get from shops now you cant downgrade to 3.55, only way to get a 3.55 is ebay , and either its preowned or brand new but youll pay over the odds for it

whether its a 160gb or 320gb chances are your gonna get an unhackable firmware, even if you do get a hackable one you cant run all games until the firmware gets hacked

so basically you can get either size up to you

but if you get it hacked means no online play, and if its for your son hell prob want to go on with his mates.. but youll have to pay for the games

i thought there was a way to downgrade the firmware
from 3.73 to 3.55.if this isnt possible then i will have to look on ebay.

hopefully will be buying my ps3 on friday,to link up with a acer h5360bd projector.as i have never owned a ps3 before could somebody tell me please if i can download games and bluray films on to my pc and transfer them to my ps3 via ps3 media server,is there anyway to get free games and films or is everything purchased through the psn store.still learning, thanks.

blu-ray films can be downloaded and played on the ps3 and depending on if you want to play online depends on if you can get games

like ive already said , 3.73 hasnt been hacked to allow you tol play games yet, and chances are thats what youll get... best bet is just pay for your games, if you pay for your games then the dev's get the money so they continue to make more good games, the rate of piracy were gonna end up with all the big game company goin under, i used to have a flashed xbox but everygame i got for that i bought for ps3 anyway so i was still paying for them
