Anyone tried these shims on ps3

Hi, wondered if anyone had tried these shims to fix a ps3 Playstation 3/PS3/Slim Yellow Light of Death/YLOD Complete Shims Fix/Repair Kit | eBay

My nephews ps3 has a problem with the graphics freezing after a few minutes of playing a game, i played a dvd through it the other day and it was still going well after 4 hours, then i started it up again after an hour and it wouldn't even stay on long enough to load a game...
Going to have a go at re-flowing the graphics chip with a heat gun and stick on the shims & new thermal past.
Do you think the shims will make a better fix??? it is the ps3 slim.
Any tips? Before spending a fortune on another ps3 i thought for the sake of ?8 i would give this fix a try.
If it isn't broke, don't try fixin it..!!!

if its still under waranty take it back, or trade it in if you havent already opened it, and get another one with a bigger hdd, that way they dont ask questions,

eventually it will get ylod, and the fixes for it generally dont last long

warranty is out now, it was bought over 12 month ago.. didn't think about trade in.. don't they check it over to see if it's working ok; or do they just do a straight swap?
If it isn't broke, don't try fixin it..!!!

Yeh it just took dikki fits m8, when i got it off him i played a blue ray dvd twice without a problem, then i turned it off.. an hour later i turned it back on and tried a mw2 in it but it went all divvy, so i left it off for 24hrs and tried it, again screen freeze before game could load, so i couldn't really take it shop as nowing my luck they would of tested it and it not work .. thanks for the suggestion tho, i would of preffered to take shop and exhange, will see how long it last for now tho and tell him to start saving up
