i think you should save all the stuff from your hd to some other device then format the hd once its in the ps3,then reinstall your save stuff back onto the hd,if not you will lose everything as i have found out the hardway

@blue eyes.. is it possible to just plug the hdd into a comp and back it up???

as far as im aware everytime you remove the hdd, and change the data on it the ps3 will ask you to format it again

the only way i know to do a backup is from the original ps3 onto an ext hdd then install that back up onto the new machine....

as i gather your old one isnt working i think youll just have to install the hdd, format it, and redownload all your purchases from ps store, they wont cost you just log back in to your old account

i am not quite sure you will get more info if you go to the ps3 website and look there.i only needed to save my game files for my son so i put these on an external and redownloaded them later.try the website i now that if you have bought off there store you can down load your content up to 5 times acording to there forum.also check out gamefaqs as they have some good info as well.

        good luck

cool mate, was just wondering as it would be quite handy if you could rather than having to faff about if you want to do a full backup

          thanks
