do the activity lights flash on the ethernet socket when you plug cable in??

also how old is the ps3? usually when it doesnt see any games or stops reading them it means the laser has gone in your drive , or possibly the whole drive.

        have you tried using wireless?

also did you buy it brand new? or was it a preowned console?

also the date code "7a" means it was manufactured in the first qurter of 2007 so either jan/feb/march so it could well be the laser has gone

it may be goosed then m8, the drive will deffo be down to the age of the console, but the ethernet one is new to me, you should maybe try seeing if theres any software updates available for it, download them from sony onto a flash drive then install from there

copied this off another forum m8

i have now had quite a few of these come to me , the icon for reading is there , but you get no drive icon to choose at all , it will not recognise any disak at all and will not give any error message
Also if you listen , the drive is not spinning at all

there are four things which could be wrong

firmware update has shagged it (did this to my own jap ps3 , no fix I know of yet) everything is ok though just a firmware issue

The spindle drive is stuffed (unlikely but have seen just the one) , test it on an independant psu or batteries)

the laser controller chip is dead , yes guys the dreaded BA/LA is back with the PS3 , I have repaired a few of these the chip to look for is BD7956FS

and also the laser itself could have fried , now i have no idea why this is happening also after f/w updates , but have had a few machines that have died after playing cod4 , they do the update , play the game , switch the machine off , and next time they try to play nothing .Replacing the laser has worked on some but not all machines , maybe about 40%

so i would say its your laser which you can replace yourself, just get one off ebay but make sure it matches the one in your system
