PS3 as media hub

right guys at the moment iv got the ps3 hooked up to the home cinema set up and tv,
and over the network to the home server with is running teversity,
only issue is ,
i wont play some media formatt's
mkv and some mpg2 formats,
iv tryed all the guides but i want to have it set up so it transcodes everything so it plays properly

thoughts ?

it wont play mkv m8 you have to convert that first ,not sure about mpg2
i use ps3 video to convert mkv files

have anyone got the play now thing for the ps3 to download stuff?

get a prog called mkv2vob, this will convert a mkv file in minutes, then the ps3 plays no prob
