    PS3 YLOD BGA FIX

It's my friend's PS3, very old one... I fixed hundreds of 360s and this is my first time on PS3.

If you press ON then it beep three times and led become yellow, then become red flashing...

This fixed by reballing the GPU.

I have lots of picture on the progress, but due to the picture limite only some are shown here:

Put it to BGA rework station, and start to heat up to 220 degrees...

    Take off GPU

Clean the remaining solder and flux (if there are any)

    Remove the remaining solder

    Put balls on a stencil

Use hotair gun, heatup, then balls will be soldered to the GPU. Now GPU is fully prepared.

that stencil you use mate, so you leave that on and use a hot air gun to bond the balls to the chip first then back on the board.

Also how are you using the stencil have you got some kind of rig?

Im in the process of trying this for the xbox but having a bit of trouble using my stencil and rig.

Could you mabe post a link to where you got the stencils from?

    thanks

m8 you need to leave the stencil on until the balls are soldered to the GPU. These stencils should be available from ebay or anywhere else. There are basically two type fo stencil, direct heated or indirect heated.
My stencil is directed heated one, so i just put everything on a wood and use hotair gun to boun the balls then just carefully remove the stencil. Hope this helps you.

ok thanks but how are you using your stencil to put the balls in?

have you got some kind of rig or do you just shake the balls onto the stencil. I have got a spring loaded rig im using at the mo but im finding it hard to use properly.

I have no rig, just pour the balls on and use a paper to scratch them flat. This is tricky and needs more practice.
