PS3 HAND CONTROLLER WON'T CHARGE

I found my hand controller behind the tv the other day with all the led lights flashing i've tried connecting directly to the ps3 but it don't work as well as connecting it as if it where new but still nothing. It has hardly been used so don't want to bin it in case any of you guys can suggest something. Thanks for replies.
