ps3 stuck in update loop

hi all i was trying to update the ps3 firmware from a usb stick it downloaded fine but it gets to 72% then stops. when i restart it starts again how can i get back to the menu?

You could try the recovery menu:
1. Turn off Playstation3.
2. Hold The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be promted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.


I think option 5 is 'rebuild database' this will rebuilt the dashboard from the current firmware.
Or try and update the firmware from there.

tried that and it didnt work i found online that when the update starts then pull out the hd ive tried this now i get a blank screen powers up for a few mins then switches off again.

tried that but couldnt get to bring up the recovery menu!

There was an issue with PS3 firmware 3.41 if downloaded with anything other than Internet Explorer. Try your link with another browser and it should be ok.

i can download it ok but when i go to update it on the ps3 it starts then gets to a certain point and gives me an error and wont update. i cant even get the recovery menu unless i plug the hd into my pc and format it then plug it back into the ps3
