PlayStation 3 update targets hardware hacks

Sony has closed a loophole that allowed users to run software that enables pirated games to be played on the PS3 console.

The update blocks the PSJailbreak and PSGroove applications.

Mathieu Hervais, one of the developers behind PSGroove, told BBC News that it was "safer not to update" if users wished to continue using the hacks.

Sony won a court order in early September banning the distribution of the PSJailbreak dongle.

yeah i have read that the jail break stops any forced updates so even if you go online you wont have to accept the update.

The jail breakers have stopped the first shipment of the usb drive due to sonys up date and because of a chinese company copying the drive.

Allot of sites claim to be getting the shipments on the 7th - 10th of september.

Also read on a few sites of people hacking the ps3 with certin mobild phones aswell.

I think the ps3 hacking scence is about to explode bring it on

I have managed to obtain a ps3 KEY aka ps3 jailbreak dongle froma site in china, and i deleted the update registry from my ps3, so I update when I want to. I have 2 games in my little PS3 HDD, but am looking to find a way to expand by having an external HDD or making the games smaller. like PSP used to be done,

Sony cant win now. once they create the first hack. no stopping them.

          access psn without updating

Set this as your primary & secondary DNS on your PS3 and you?ll be able to bypass 3.42

Well when Microsoft caught on about the 360 been Hacked, they went in the opposit direction, Detection and Console Banning from there Servers.

Sony in my opinion will start Detection of Ip addresses of consoles they detect are playing Games containing the same Serial Number.

Sony PS3 have a Clever Serial Numer on each Game Disk for identification by the console & Sony with there online server can see the game info if its been played online.

If thousands of Different users are playing the same game online detection will be simple to detect.

Also they Could simply Introduce a type of New Wave of software on the Disks of new Games (Like Microsoft ) fourcing eveyone to Update there console for New Games to be palyed on the console, this could in theory could work as the PSJailbreak and PSGroove would have to be removed for such a n Update.

On the other hand If I were Sony I would be sitting back and watching the Console Sell like hot cakes on the run up to Christmas as more people will by the console now that its hacked.

Yer, good luck to everyone waiting till the Xmas period to buy a PS3, it should be this years No.1 selling electronic device.

Just a shame that most of them will have Firmware 3.42 or above

doesnt stop from having a full game for free.
online would be cool but lets first be happy a hack is out.

yeah sony will try and come up with an update, like they do with psp.

but once the first one is out. cnt stop it no more.
i bet early next year downloaded ps3 games from torrent sites will be easy.
