Just upgraded my ps3's internal hdd to a samsung 640gb, used the ps3's backup utility to create a backup then swapped the drive, went to reinstall the backup and got error " there is no backup data ",
After much frustration, making another backup, many attempts to re install the backup I found out the problem is caused by the ps3 losing its connection with the ext hdd when it reboots.
For anyone having this problem the fix is to power off the ext hdd when the ps3 does its reboot, when it says press the ps button - don't - power up the ext hdd .....wait 10 seconds, then press the ps button and it will then find the backup data
