I think my ps3 is messed up?

Alright ... So since yesterday I've been having this problem with my ps3, I cant seem to put it into stand by mode ... I kept my hand on the power sensor for 5 minutes and it does absolutely nothing. The only way I can turn off my PS3 is using the Controller PS button .....

I am freaking out here because I never turn off my PS3 that way, I always put it into stand by mode and then turn it off manually from the back.

Also, now when I turn it on (power sensor seems to work fine for turning it on), it goes to some screen telling me that an HDMI device has just been detected and would I like to change it to that (Playing on my monitor)... First time I'm getting this message and then it boots up with the normal PS3 theme .... My saved theme is gone and I have to manually put it back again.

    Other info:
I havnt done the 3D update
I've been watching a lotta films through the USB drive.

What gives? should I be worried about this, because I am.

You should shut it down with the menus anyway, not the button on the front.

    Does that work?

      Yeah that works.

And any reason why I should use the menu to shut down? It ''feels'' safer putting it on standby mode.. and then shutting it manually from the back.

Any ideas what's wrong when I turn it on though? it keeps telling me that the ps3 has just detected an HDMI wire and that if I want to switch to it ... It's never happened before.

Why not try resetting it on HDMI to get rid of the error. Sounds as if its been plugged into an HDMI device at some point and is scanning for this setting.

Each time its plugged into an HDMI device it will auto set the settings.

I don't know why Sony's recommended procedure for shut down is the menus but for sure it is documented as such.

Reset the video by powering it on, holding the finger on the soft start till it beeps twice more. That will reset your video and should get rid of your problem.
