Buying a ps3. Need advice plz

Hi experts. I'm new to this playstation thing so I would like some advice please.

I've got a ps3 120g slim reserved at Argos, so I assume it has the latest software installed?? What would I need, in simple terms, to allow me to play "back up games" or borrowed/downloaded games on my ps3 and online?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Many thanks.

I replied to the first post

You probably will not be able to as the software on it will be too new to allow jailbreak. There is rumour of a means to downgrade the firmware to a lower version to allow jailbreak but I wouldn't hold my breath.

It would depend when it was manufactured and how long its been at argos. I would doubt highly that it will be on 3.50 but you may be that unlucky, more than likely on a lower fw revison and will require updating.

Any ps3 with a firmware version lower than 3.42 can run jailbreak, higher firmwares can be downgraded - PS-Downgrade.com - The Largest Retailer of PS Downgrade & PS Jailbreak - or if you wait for it to be open sorce then it should be able to run on any jailbreak dongle that we can program ourselves

It all depens on manufactor date. It would be pure unlock if you receive a brandnew ps3 with the 3.50 update on it. I do not think they are produced yet. Just make sure that u keep the system software at 3.41 not updating to 3.41
