    Disk Read Error

    Hi

I keep getting disk read error on my console however the games work on my brothers console, although when i try a different type of disk on my xbox they work fine?

Does this mean my xbox is just being fussy or is the lazer on its way out?

    Thanks

Laser. Not hard to replace. Check ebay for replacement.

But before that it may be worth running a cd lense cleaner through it...

You could try pot tweaking it, but wont work for long after it.

You won't have to solder if you take the new laser out of a drive. If you buy a brand new laser on it's own, you will have do to a very small bit of soldering. New lasers come with little anti-static balls that need soldered off. It's very easy and nothing to be worried about.

A console playing CDs but not games is symptomatic of bad laser and/or wrong drive key, although in your case you almost definitely need a new laser.

Wrong key and it will only play films. Pop a game in and it says play dvd.
