yeh im wondering the same thing and do you get banned as quick as a flashed 360?

Homebrew mod is just as likely to get caught online as flashing the drives.

There is no mod that is undetectable on the xbox 360.

You can only JTAG a unit thats been manufactured before summer 2009 and hasnt got the summer 2009 update.

Its no more secure than a straightforward drive reflash (its less secure actualy) and its a LOT more involved, simply because its intended to run homebrew instead of backups, so it relys on a user knowing what theyre doing more often than not (its still early days once the modding community stabilises there will be plenty of software to automate quite a lot of the headaches)
