when i load some of my games i get a message saying open tray and only works if i wait 20 mins. could someone let me know what you think it could be.

Your laser isn't reading the disc.
Are they original or backups?
If they are backups it could be poor quality discs, or they may have been burned too fast.
Sometimes a simple laser clean with cleaning alcohol will be enough to repair it, but it's common for the laser to be ~~~~ed and needing replaced.
A new laser will cost you about ?6 plus postage on eBay, and they are incredibly easy to replace. -
