flashed xbox 360 - questions

hi

i have just bought a brand new xbox 360 4g s console (flashed) and was wondering if things have changed since the old version (white console with 20gb hdd) as i haven't touched that for a couple of years and also not been keeping upto date with the scene.

i would like to know if it is safe to go connect online and download demos etc and also send messages to other xbox 360 users? i think this didn't require xbox live gold.

if not safe to do so, will it actually barr my console so i cannot play originals or backups offline or will it only stop me from going online again?

also did these consoles need to be opened for them to be flashed? as the sticker still seems to be in place.

Yes they need to be opened.

As for live safe, what version of the dashboard do you have on the xbox?

i have no idea what version dashboard i have but it is probably the latest one as i got the console brand new and it was manufactured in april 2011 if i remember correctly from the packaging.
