Xbox 360 mic can't hear but can talk ?

Right , the mic is the new black one. Bought it around 2 months ago. My frens can hear me talk, but i can't hear them. I have to change my voice prefences to speakers so i can hear them. EVen if i put it as speakers and headset the headset cant work - can only hear. I can hear my frens talk, only if i plug the wire in the controller to a certain position, but its annoying. SHud I buy a new mic or a new controller ?

had several like that - and they were classed as new also - time to get a new headset I'm afraid
