i mean if my mate lends me a game, can i copy it 2 my hard drive, when i have a game in the xbox and im on the dashboard it says copy game 2 hard drive but i havent tried it.....im just seeking some advive b4 i do,

ahh, on the 360... now we're getting somewhere!
short answer yes you CAN copy games to the 360's hdd, BUT you will need the original game disc in the drive whenever you want to play that game.
Its purely to cut down on loading times and excessive drive noise whilst playing

just to add to this can i copy original xbox 360 games to dual layer disk

yes, you can mate, but they wont play unless yours is chipped

As mentioned better load times and so the disc doesnt get damaged....
