Xbox live disconnecting

I've been listening to LASTFM all afternoon, then suddenly i have no connection and can't establish one. I have the router sitting beside consul there are no phones to interfere with it. Its a new wireless router that was installed last wk, for exactly this same reason. The bloody thing severed twice before finally saying bye bye. Is there a fault in my area? I haven't been near it to cause it to disconnect. So is there anything i can do? An idiots guide would be helpful. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR REPLIES.
