set up windows media player 11

add everything you want to play into your library (i have set a folder on my F:\ drive as my library)

power up your xbox and try accessing computers on the network, it should show up in wmp11 and you just need to allow access.

make sure that your firewall is configured to allow access too and everything should play fine.

You can convert the movie into a mp4 which should play. ALso heard WMV but not got that to work.

There is free software to convert avi to mp4.
