Got the tools and files, a couple of questions though

Right I have got the necessary files and have read the guide and I feel comfortable with most of what I have to do using JF to go from fw1.5 to 1.6

I was given the box with 1.5 already on it, so to keep up, I'm going to have to do things myself. A couple of questions though, just to confirm I understand correctly.

My 360 has a LiteOn drive.

Do I need the VIA SATA chipset, or can I just use the free SATA port on my motherboard?

Do I need the connectivity kit or can I use the half open method by powering it from the 360?

From my point of view, it looks all software related, and I just have to plug the drive into my motherboard and power it from the 360, just taking the power out when I hit eject to retract the tray. However, there's some conflicting advice out there, so a bit of clarification would be fantastic.

    Thanks for your time.

Depends upon sata chipsets, dont need kit now, once tray half open just click, get key from ixtreme and it should read the firmware.

      Hi mate

I have been doing these for a while now, for friends and familes and the like. I have a elite myself with a liteon drive. In anwser to your question, If you have a nforce chipset on your motherboard you can use that or otherwise you will need a via sata card which costs about ?10 off ebay. You will need to install drivers etc to get this to work and there are lots of tutorials on the next to help ya, if you want some help then ask.

More importantly, to flash a liteon drive you need a probe to extract the keys from it - unlike the older drives such as benq/hitachi/samsung in which you could extract though the sata cable. You will need to to either make a homemade probe device or buy a commercial one, such as a ck3 pro (with probe) which costs around ?40. You just then set it up with all the drivers on your pc and use something like jungleflasher to flash your drive once you have extracted the keys from it. You can also "spoof" one drive with another and thus replace your liteon with a benq, lets say. If you don't want to do this yourself you can pay someone to do it for you. PM me for more info.
