    Want a new Xbox 360

I bought my Xbox 360 (20GB) 2 years ago for ?350 with a couple of games and xbox live for a year. I took warranty on it which i pay monthly.

So i was thinking could i purposely damage it and get it replaced?I've noticed the Elite systems with a couple of games are as cheap as >?250.and now that the 20GB models are no longer manufactured would they have to replace mine with equal value - ie ?350(Elite)?

Ive had the ring of death thing once which i took to the store and the sent it away to get repaired - that was about a year ago.

Has anyone out there down something similar and how did it go?

You will get a console similar to yours for replacement. Even if you send it back to microsoft. They do have these console avaliable for replcement and you cannot expect them to send you an elite because you payed ?350 for your console.

I paid ?400 for my very first elite on release date.

The elite is ?200 in most shops now.

Remember all you pay for is the hard drive and black case, nothing else.

    All boxes are the same.

With all the games and addon packs avaliable now on the marketplace I would advise you to go for the bigger hard drive.

Although you can mod the xbox yourself to add storage space

so u rekon if i took it back they would try and get a 20gb consoles if possible to replace it with(basically like for like)? what if they offered my a refurbished unit, surely i am within my rights to decline and expect vouchers/new xbox.

you advise i get the bigger harddrive, do you think this would result in me having to pay extra?

      Thanks for your reply.

Have you done this in the past?

        There are 3 consoles.

If you take it back they will definitely do like for like replacement.

If you bought a car for ?25,000 and took it to a garage 3 years later you think they would give you a car of the same value as your initial purchase.

If you want a bigger hard drive the 120gb drive is around ?60.

Personally i would buy myself an Elite at ?200.

The only way you will get a refurbished unit is if you send it back to microsoft.

If you have an extended warranty from place of purchase you will get a new console but as i said it will be exact replace of your original which will be premium console.

ye i take your point, guess i was just being optimistic.I'll have a look over my warranty papers and maybe take a trip to the store and ask someone where i stand.

You mentioned if i take it to the store they would need to give me a new xbox360. but since the premium consoles are no longer being manufactured wouldnt the store no longer stock them? and since its only the arcade or elite being manufactured.....possibly an elite?

          thanks for your feedback

I think the limitations of what you are sugesting would have to taken place in the first year of ownership for Microsoft to replace it (like for like) other than Microsofts replacement plan for owners of the RROF consoles or other issues addressed by Microsoft are still covered .....

The extra warranty taken out by yourself after purchase was if from the Store you bought it or was directly from Microsoft after care ?

If its only a instore warranty service from where you purchased it ! (its not worth the money its printed on at this stage) and Microsoft do not nor other companys indorse what Stores & Shops selling products and covering items with there own type of extra warranty .........

If it is 100% under Direct Microsoft protection Customer care plan and still under warranty, and the unit has a serious malfunction and fails to opperate and that the unit does not breach any Act's of God or Misuse then I am sure Microsoft are under some obligation to replace it like for like, but you will have to walk a tight line to qualify for such a decission to be made in you favor....

Its not worth it, Following what cgscott had previously post just buy another one or upgrade the one you have ...

                Thanks for the responses.

I tried finding some answers without actually identifying myself. unfortunately i was told to piss off basically .
If i had to make a claim then fill out the stated proceedure, which i couldnt be bothered doing.
