Microsoft banning unauthorised memory cards and hdd with new update

I found this on xbox scene and thought id warn people about it
Not sure if its true or not

When Preview Program members start receiving the Xbox 360 system update next week, one of the changes is that unauthorized Memory Units will no longer work with the Xbox 360. If you've moved your profile or saved games onto one to "back it up," you'd better move it back onto an authorized Xbox 360 storage device prior to taking the update. If you continue to use an unauthorized Memory Unit after the update, you will not be able to access your stored profile or saved games

It's unsure if they mean devices like Datel's MAX Memory or homemade Xbox 360 HDDs, but I guess we can assume they will try to block both. There's no 'stealth' what-so-ever with home-made 360 HDDs so it would be pretty easy for MS to detect them. Back to paying 150usd for a 40usd 120gb 2.5" SATA drive with a fancy case?

They DO mean datel memory modules. I have spoken at length to a major UK supplier of datel products, who have in turn spoken to datel themselves.

Datel confirm that the latest system update looks to see if the memory module is >512mb (the biggest sold by MS themselves). If it is, it bans it. Apparently MS are pissed at how sales of their 512mb modules have fallen away dramatically.

Datel say they have designed a fix for this, which will report the memory module as 512mb irrespective of its actual size. This update (they say) will be available on Monday 2nd Nov thru the codejunkies web site (which Datel own).

They don't say how the update is applied - presumably they will issue instructions with the update.

Furthermore, the update also blocks Datel's XSata to PC kit from working - Datel are pulling their hair out!!
