360 elite Modding Query??

Hi Guys
Just got a 360 elite for the kids (Yeah and the big one ) and i already have a xecutor360 mod kit....I have been sent a tutorial by a kind chap on here...but here's the big question or questions??
1. In the tutorial it says that Benq drives after 7th july 2007 have no modded firmware??? is that still true??
2. Is there any way i can find out what drive i have in the box without opening as i am told that the elite is more than likely a Benq drive?? And i don't want to mess around opening the unit to find it's unmoddable.
3. My puter is a Medion (Yeah from Aldi) and is running the dreaded Vista so would i have any problems with the pci card i would need to link to the box??
as i have had problems with other cables in the past not being compaterble.

Chances are it is a benq.

Yes there is firware, im sure someone on here will be able to send you the firmware you need if you ask them nicely. As all my stuff is in storage due to moving so no acess to my drives with all the data on.

l did a benq the other day in a standard 360 that had come back from ms after a rrod repair with a new board and drive and that was fine
