xbox with no drive

hey i got offered for free an xbox that has no drive. i know i need the drive key to play games but i read somewhere if i install a chip, globe 360 mod, it doesnt matter if you have the key or not. I know that live will not be safe if i chip it but im not that bothered about that as it will never go on live.

any help on this on please fellas.
