Microsoft's Mass Ban..

I've read a earlier thread about microsoft begining another weeks scanning starting tomorow [16thNovember] - whats the best way to avoid the ban.. for the last scanning [the week leading to the release of Call Of Duty MW2] i just removed my internet to my xbox and did campaign.. should i carry on doing that for the next scan or doesn't it matter...?

Yes,

The new dashboard addons are coming and it is most likely that they will also put the update that caused the banning before.

Banned consoles can be unbanned now so its not really a problem.

Hold on to any broken consoles that have not been banned.

Why risk it. Don't log onto live until the new LT firmware comes out.

im with hanibal on this one, id suggest staying off live untill you either get hold of a guaranteed firmware fix (which im sceptical about) or reflash your drive to stock firmware.

Theres a couple of fixes to unban a unit but its frankly an involved and complicated procedure (requiring a working unit to begin with) or a complete timesink of a technical nightmare if you have a broken box to salvage parts from (i can safely say this now that im sober)

Apparently so.

But i speculate that this new dashboard update will check the drives firmware upon system boot and flag it in the NAND.
Then either periodicaly update microsoft as to the firmwares state or just sit as a ticking time bomb till microsoft feels the need to pres the killswitch again when unit sales lag.

This is just speculation on my part but it seems sensible and feasible enough to me.

Me? yeah, but ive not modded the console i use, ive got two units, one chipped so i can run dev code on it via XNA without having to pay (?65 a year???) for a developer subscription and the other for purely gaming purposes.
Not that i really use the XNA studio all that much, its a seriously limited framework that needs a LOT of work done to its API before it'll ever be taken seriously.

Neither should run backups i dont think, ive never tried anyway. If its a game i desperately want to play i'll buy it at retail and if im only mildly interested i'll buy it used for chump change.

A lot of my friends and family however download and burn games, im more interested in the actual hardware and software aspects than playing games, hence my interest in the banwave.
