There are lots of old guides on the Xbox 360, but new methods of repairing the fault are popping up. Turns out the problem is to do with Lead Free solder on the GPU. All the guides you get say to heat the Xbox up, but that doesn't re flow the solder.

On watchdog they pointed out that the PS3 has the same problem, to do with the graphics chip.

In a press statement Sony said they used Infra Red BGA rework station to reflow the solder. This is because if you heat the board up to the reflow temperature of the solder, everything would melt.

You have to heat the board up to 150 c and then use Infra Red to just reheat the areas required to the melting point of the solder.

There are some interesting videos and information about it on this site:

You can reflow using a heatgun (or even an oven if you feel lucky, but tbh if you have trouble with the x-clamp fix better give reflowing a miss!).

You might find the rrod returning. Make sure things are cooled better now using 12V mod or some other solution.

                1500-2000 watt heatgun should do.

Make sure it has variable temp range.

You want one with variable temp control.

Most start at 80 degrees up to 600.

The cheaper guns only come with 2 settings.

                    This is more like it
