    Replacing Toshiba Sumsung TS-H493 Drive

OK, so I have a box with a fualty drive. The reason I think the drive is faulty (not a bad key or flash) is because sometimes the game will load and play, sometimes it just reads then says 'open tray' and sometimes it reads then says 'unreadable disc - clean with soft cloth' etc.

I have a new Samsung TS-H493 and the original firmware dump from the old drive.

In JF. should I load the original firmware and flash it with that first, then re-flash with 1.61. Or, can I load the original firmware, load IX 1.61 and spoof the key from source to target in the same move?

Never replaced a drive before so need a bit of moral support here!

Yes, if you keep ejecting and re-loading then at some stage it will work - but often it will freeze either during the loading of the game or during game play (thats if you can get it to load at all!)

Seems like the laser is knackered - that's why I want to try replacing the drive.

couldn't wait for your moral support so I've done it. Working perfectly now. Just unlocked with sammy, loaded fw from original drive as source, loaded ix1.61 as target, spoofed key to target and write. No problem.

Question now is, I have another box with a liteon which has exactly same problems as this one had. Do you reccon I can replace the drive with a Samsung and do exactly the same as with this one?

Bit different to spoof drive as liteon.
Can be done though no probs.
Have a read at the new JF tut i uploaded here.

Digital Kaos - Downloads - Jungleflasher 1.66 Guide

Also try giving the laser on the liteon a clean etc before replacing. Sometime this can be the prob.

That said you cannot brick a samsung so your in good stead for trial and error.
