    x box wireless

hi all ive heard about using a wireless router in the back of my new xbox arcade upstairs and then it will connect to my wirless router downstairs which is wired into my modem. But when ive went to shops to buy a wireless router they say it wont work and you must use the proper xbox plug in. Has any 1 done it & its worked & if so does any 1 have an idiots guide to setting it up ??? thanx in advance

it is possible to do this with some serious hacking, but it would be much easier to bridge your wireless connection. You can get a wireless (g) bridge for ?20-?25ish these days

it's just as easy as setting up a normal wifi connection, just make sure you read the instructions! then just run the ethernet cable from your bridge to your xbox360

you'll need to set it up on your computer first, then its as simple as pressing a button and it will connect to your network

I got one of these today, and it won't connect unless I drop all of my wireless security! It's strange, because even when following the instructions to the letter, it still wouldn't set up properly and allow me to configure my security settings.

Anyone else had this? If so, how did you overcome it?

I'm afraid I've not heard of this before? what wireless security do you have? If you are using a combo of WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] some devices are known not to work if you use both, but will if you use just one or the other.

That said, it is more likely to be a password problem. Try changing your routers password

Got it sorted last night, but what a ball ache. Turns out I needed to update the firmware to allow the use of any security newer than WEP... sounds easy enough, but it wasn't. I couldn't understand why I couldn't access the adapter, but then I read (after hours of messing about) that the Gaming Adapter's IP is set at 192.168.2.225, and my PC IP wasn't in the same range so I had to change it. So, I changed my IP and could then connect to the adapter in Firefox! Sounds good, but even when I'd updated the firmware, it took nearly half an hour of reseting the adapter and connecting before I could actully set up the password for my network - timing is EVERYTHING it would seem.

Anyway, long story short, it's done... but I won't be buying one of these again!
