X Box Live and Banning -- HDD Question??

Hello All,

I got my son an Xbox 360 (basic console) for crimbo and my mate in work is giving me a HDD for it. The hard drive comes from his p;d Xbox 360 which was banned from Live...

My question is, was it his X box that was banned, and will using his HDD (which I will format) get me banned?

Also, how do I formate tha HDD without going on Live, and completely wipe all data so that there is little chance of me getting banned.

Format and enter the serial number of the console and format it.

You will be fine to go online.
