IF you are on iXtreme 1.5 or below, Wave3 games will not boot for you and thus Wave4 games will not either. In this case, YES you need to update your firmware!

IF you are on iXtreme 1.51 (Hitachi), then ANY wave will boot fine, including Wave4 however you must be EXTRA careful as you are not protected against corrupt or incorrect video partitions. This is one of the many reasons to always use abgx360. If a game is fully verified, playing it on iXtreme 1.51 is just as safe as playing it on iXtreme 1.6 - this includes Wave4 games.

IF you are on iXtreme 1.51 (BenQ/LiteOn/Samsung), then YES you need to update your firmware!
IF you are on iXtreme 1.6, you can ALSO play Wave 4 and above games, however you need to use a special activation disk to do so. This was added to the firmware specifically for this eventuality - the disk activates "one-shot-boot" mode, essentially it allows iX1.6 to boot any game you insert into the drive, even if its not properly stealthed. You simply insert the disk into the drive, let it spin up (it will say "play DVD"), then swap in your Wave4 game. You will need to do this each time you want to play a Wave 4 (or above) game. Don't worry, if the game has all the necessary stealth data, then iX1.6 will still use it, so if you boot a VERIFIED Wave4 game using this method, you should be just as safe as you were booting a verified wave 3 game.

some peoples are still going strong though , so what i dont understand is if it was 100% detectable then surely every flashed box connected 2 live in the world should have gone down , yet this isnt the case at all and many continue to game

This is a random thing been done for years.
If we all went down on same day same time then we could work out what is wrong.

Had 3 years at it so cant complain, banned last time on benq 1,61, but im getting the boy a new 1 for xmas so he'll have the best of both worlds

I'm on my 3rd year now with benq IX 1.61. So yeah is random, but firmware can be detected at this time. I dont think they are banning right now, again try at own risk.

As per playing games early, this can get you a ban, Halo 3 ODST, MW2 were last i saw where people were getting banned due to early playing, agaiin but not all were banned. There are only speculation on bans, bad rips/jitter respnce times ect, heard most before.

As for Firmwares. 1.51 hitachi, 1.6 liteon, 1.61 sammy and benq are the latest ixtreme firmwares avail. All drives apart from the liteon will have non - stealthed firmware so hence will boot any wave, they are all avail from xbins.

Back to the subject of the thread. The Lite Touch firmware is delayed, not cancelled, so they say on IRC, only time can tell us if there will be another Firmware Release. Reasons for delay could be a number of things from the team fallout to maybe the firmware is detectable. Or maybe they working on a softmod for the newer liteon drives that are only dumpablle by the pin lifting method.

There is going to be no more firmware from Ixtreme.
Firmware is already out for the 8 and 9. So no reason why they couldn't release if there was such firmware as LT.

I dont think you read my post correctly. I never said the firmware was not avail. I said they could be working on a soft dumping of the drives.

Cant see a soft dump antime soon of the 9 series.

Well time will tell, the pin lift method worked on all liteon drives, so really, any liteon drives after those currently out, i'd expect to be patched so that method would work. We'll have to wait and see what happens, maybe its the end of drive firmware from C4EVA think someone else would take over.

As for your reason for end of ixtreme being produced, i seriously doubt that would be the reason, or sole reason for it not being made, would be more likely something like the new Firmware being detectable or the posted fallout of team jungle due to financial gains ect.

Anyway time will see what happens, for now its delayed not cancelled. Thats all i have got off FW Channel and Team Jungle Channel
