Firstly your gonna get your box sent back. I have sent opened ones recently and they send back with note stating that its been tampered with.

Secondly you can power your drive with the xbox but its hard to get the status when asked to turn off and back on within 1 second.

Depending on how new the new console you buy is the drive may be harder to do than you think.

If you have never used a ck3 kit to extract a liteon the you have fat chance of doing the 8 series and 9 series drives which are the new drives in post April 09 boxes.

    Good luck.

PS.. You said you had done a drive before in a previous post by pwering up the drive with console.

i never said that. i said i was trying to.

my brother told me his mate sent a xbox back to them with some stuff missing an them still send a new xbox back to him.

i have put everything back the way it was but under the clamp is white stuff. if them dont send me a new one then i will buy a ps3 thats less of the chance of this crap happening again.

Just buy a model from 2008 and you wont get the red ring again.

The solder was changed on the new boards due to the older boards cracking with too much heat.

I had an elite from october 2008 and it never missed a beat and i left it on all the time.

The RROD is long gone with the new boards.

Also if they do send you a new box its gonna come with a 9 series drive in it so be prepared to pay to get the key pulled from it coz its not an easy job.

Plus you are better to replace the drive with a benq. That way you can update it no problem.

Don't you have to extract the drive key from the original drive and insert it onto the FW of the new drive? I know this was def the case with the Hitachi's and Samsungs.

Its the case with any drive. They key has to be extracted from the drive in console the any drive can be spoofed to replace.

That is why i said replace the 9 series for a benq as the benq drives are the best drive to have.

Why would you do that though? You have to solder to get the key off the new drives so you may as well flash that same drive.

I always replace the later models with benq.

                  Better drives than liteon.

Fair enough. I know a lot of people reckon the lite-on's are better. I personally dont think there is much difference between the two.

                        Wave proof not stealth proof.

Benq quiet and can be flashed in dos. make one mistake with a hitachi and its goodnight.

if using jungle flasher it is idiot proof, i prefer the hitachis, i have 2, 1 sammy and one liteon. got two new lasers ordered for the hitachi's, both are flashed, one had 3rrod 18-24 months ago but i repaired without the the washer shite, just changed the paste and is still working perfect barr the laser.

gonna use the liteon for bought games and the media centre and the banned hitachi to play downloaded games.
