To Chip Or Not To Chip

Hi All,

Just bought a XBox 360 Elite for my son. The deal that I got was the XBox 360, Forza 3, Halo 3 and Fifa 2010 for ?189.99 from Gamestation.

Now my question is do I sell the games and get the XBOX chipped. I am asking this because whilst I was making the purchase there must of been 3 other people at the counter with faulty XBox's.

If I do get it chipped, what happens to the warranty?

Is it worth it, really dont know which way to go.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Warrenty will be void if the sticker is removed although this can be removed carefully and stuck back on after.

I assume the elite you bought it post april 2009 model so it is difficult to flash.
You will have someone in your area no doubt who will do this for a fee.

Although the new boards/consoles rarely get rrod now so its a chance you take.
Most broken consoles date back pre oct 2008. Anything after is pretty much safe.

If you do flash and learn how to make the games then you will save ???'s.

Trade the games you got with the console in at a local game or gamestation and get something else with the credit.

The logic is as follows.

Cost of a spanking new release, ?40
Cost of a spanking new 360, ?120
Cost of 25 DVD+R DL's, ?10

So for the price of 3 games i can afford a replacement unit, if i get it flashed which costs pennies to do your self, after you've downloaded 3 new releases your breaking even.
Add to this that after factoring in coasters its still only costing you a tenner for 20~25 games.

So for a tenner i could potentialy be saving a grand on new games, enough to cover 8 new replacement systems.

moe as cg scott has said you must make sure you can get your model flashed ok. the newer models are difficult and so is getting someone to do it. also realise that microsoft now has the ability to detect the firmware that lets you play copy games and this will eventually lead to you getting banned from xbox live if you want to play youre games online that is.

but as chroma stated you make more with games and as far as getting banned that is a chance but iv took it and not been banned yet and i play online and did so through the ban wave

where i got my 360 from they will do the firmware update for you and you can add warranty too some people have had problems with these people in the past but they have always been good to me gamesworlddirect as for whether to do it or not thats up to you all i know is ive got bout 80 games for mine nearly all back ups imagine what that would cost you in the shop )))))))))))))))

Aslong as you keep it well ventilated it should be fine, also heat the warranty sticker with a hairdryer and pull it off then just put it back after, works well.

Microshit might start off a fresh ban wave if they have found a work around for the LT firmware, if anything else they will test LT to its limits if this is there method of detection.

There are some realy high profile games coming out in March & April including Splintercell , Read Dead Redemption, Alan Wake, Maffia 2 I would not put it past M$ to try and hit back at piracy twice this year March & November.

An it is recomended that all FUTURE CONSOLE UPDATES ARE INSTALLED WITH STOCK FIRMWARE ON YOUR DRIVE. So if your games are stealthed corectly, should not be an issue. Could be wrong as always your choice
