Depends on the version. Before aug 09 they can be soft modded, after aug 09 they require the pin lift/switch method that requires soldering.

All you need to know is in the JF guide. Direct quote from it here

Whereas the 83850C v1 does NOT require additional hardware and can be dumped/flashed
          using only a SATA connection
The key/inquiry/identify/serial files are merged into a dummy.bin (this allows for easy
manipulation of the drive info for placing into the iXtreme firmware). They contain information
that is required for proper identification and security related issues.
The 83850C v2 was quickly released to combat key retrieval by the earlier methods so key
retrieval using 83850C v1 or original method was no longer an option! This change occurred
around July/Aug 09 drive manufacture dates. There is no outward difference between the
83850C v1 and the 83850C v2 ? the only way to discover which you have is to try the 83850C v1
method! If successful you have the version 1 ? IF NOT JungleFlasher will tell you, you have an
          83850C v2 and Lo83 function is ONLY for v1.
The 93450C quickly followed ? Once again key retrieval was not an option with simple sata
commands or probe used for 74850C
Pulled from another guide of thiers

          Modifiable Drives
At present all drives are modifiable, but they vary in complexity.
          Vendor Model Status
          Samsung MS25 unlocked - trivial
Samsung MS28 soft unlock - trivial
Hitachi 46/58 unlocked - trivial - can be flashed in windows and over USB 2 SATA
Hitachi 47/59 soft unlock - trivial - can be flashed in windows and over USB 2 SATA
Hitachi 78 unlocked - trivial - can be flashed in windows and over USB 2 SATA
Hitachi 79 locked - trivial - can be unlocked with an audio CD, then same as 78
Benq 62430C soft unlock - trivial
Benq 64930C soft unlock - trivial
Lite-On 74850 locked - moderate, key can be extracted via a serial debug port on the drive
Lite-On 83850 locked - trivial, key can be extracted over SATA and decrypted
Lite-On 83850 v2 locked - complex, key can be extracted by a full dump and requires rework.
Lite-On 93450 v2 locked - complex, key can be extracted by a full dump and requires rework.
So all you need to know is there if you look proper in the guides

But if you want to solder then here the link

              All Liteon (74850, 83850, 93450) Firmware/Key Dump – Update | Team Xecuter
Xecuter LT Switch – Enhanced Version ! | Team Xecuter
Xecuter CK3 Probe v2 – The First No Solder Liteon Solution | Team Xecuter

They all do same job. The probe V2 is out of stock atm.

Follow the jungleflasher guide on how to retrieve info off drive once mods have been done. You do this at own risk.

You can use the executer switch by cutting tracks and soldering it to the board.

The v2 Probe can be used but tracks still have to be cut but no soldering is required.

You only need to solder if using the switch.

The probe v2 eleimates the need for the switch but tracks still need to be cut.

Very complicated for beginners. The best option would be to pay someone to do this.

The cost of this is around ?30-?40. But well worth it as this is a very complicated procedure.
