    EA

With the sucess of titles like Mass Effect 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2 and the like with a "VIP store" code EA has announced that its going one step further in its continuing mission to F**K customers in the ass.
They're now including a promotional code with all new titles to allow access to online features.
    No code = no multiplayer.

Starting with the release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the publisher will introduce a new Online Pass, a one-time registration code included with each brand new copy of the game. The code allows players to access ?online services, features and bonus content.?
Those who purchase the game used can buy an Online Pass for $10 or sign up for a free 7-day trial. The pass will be implemented for NCAA Football 11, NHL 11, Madden NFL 11, NBA 11, FIFA 11, and EA Sports MMA as well. The pass offers different features for each title, however, players will not have access to basic multiplayer features if purchased used.

?You will be unable to play multiplayer online game modes or use your downloaded content in online game modes,? EA says. Online leagues, dynasty and franchise modes are also only available with the Online Pass. The break down for each title can be seen on the publisher?s official website.

Simply put, EA can now KISS MY ASS.
Storefronts like in BFBC2 where ok by me, they still let me play the game (with limited maps) and if i liked something enough id throw down some hard cash and upgrade, now it seems if i want to access online content in any shape or form im now being extorted to pay full retail or throw down money for a service i already subscribe to...

Looks like we might have to actually buy a couple of games this year. It dont bother me.

I will buy the game and take i back and get half my money back.
So that the kid who dont go online can enjoy it.

This will probably be the way it goes for all titles soon.

Still, buying the online license for a tenner is still cheaper than buying the original. If anything, it screws over the pre-owned market more than the pirate market I would say.

If I was going to buy a pre-owned title (which I tend to do if I want to play a game on Xbox Live atm) then I would expect to pay less for these titles than I currently pay, due to having the pay the additional license for online.

looks like a good way to beat piracy if you ask me but i wouldnt be surprised if the pirates cracked the game and removed the need to enter the promo code.

looking at battlefield bad company 2 it seems to get access to VIP you just need a 100 odd kb config file.
Ive not really looked into it yet in any detail but i see no reason on the surface that would prevent someone knocking out patched configs to gain access to the content.

Download it, and purchase the code as if you have bought a used version. Simple solution. Cheap aswell.!
